Marian Wright Edelman was born in 1939 and has had quiet an impact as a civil rights activist. She was the first African American to pass the bar in

Mississippi. She founded the Children’s Defense Fund which is considered the most powerful children’s lobby. It was written to help ensure that those who cannot help themselves are able to receive help from others. Her career is quite remarkable with lots of important accomplishes.

She received our country’s highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She also received the Robert F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award for her writings. She counties to write books and has stayed true to her call to help the less fortunate.
