Day — 264 — Haibun Journey Daily Thoughts — Speak Up

Speak up and judge fairly, defend the rights of the poor and needy — Proverbs 31:9

Whether or not you are religious or not the fore mentioned proverb speaks volumes to the recent protests. It also should speak to the politicians claims claiming to be christian. We are a democracy founded on the ideas of truth and justice. Here is amendment 1, just incase you do not believe that people have the right to assemble to redress grievances.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The president used force against people peacefully assembled speaking out for their rights. This is a grievous offense. The way he belittles and maligns the press seems to be an affront to this amendment as well.

We need to stand up for justice and truth and for equality in the treatment of all. Our news reported should not be fired upon of harassed. We say we value free speech — not just that that pleases the president. We need reform now.

Atlanta demonstrations have turned violent but the reporters should not be harassed or have their equipment broken. We need the Congress, the senate and the president to stand up and address the grievances before civil unrest becomes a lot more. If the current politicians aren’t willing to voice an opinion or address the “Black Lives Matter” grievances then it is time for everyone to voice their opinion and vote them out of office.
