Day 1200 — Wekiwa Springs — Haibun Journey Beauty Each Day
Today’s beauty was hiking at Wekiwa Springs. Well it is said to be a great hiking trail in Florida, but we didn’t think of it as hiking rather more of a long walk. Kentucky and most of the places we go hiking has lots of hills, mountains and ledges. This was mostly a sandy path. Don’t get me wrong, we had a great time and found lots of interesting things to photograph. We saw several different butterflies, including a zebra swallowtail. We saw a large banana spider a tiny frog, lots of lizards and a blue-tailed skink. The route we chose lead us to Sand Lake. It was very beautiful and peaceful. We decided to swim in the springs when we got back to the trailhead. We took our picnic down to the edge and ate a late lunch. By this time we cooled off and were not a eager to get in. The bottom is cemented and they built a wall and ledge around one section for swimming. They did leave some of the extremely large natural rocks in and the whole area was beautiful. Still it was kind of like a crowded swimming pool and the ones at our hotel were so very nice we went back their to swim; if not, the springs would have been great.
